Pine Island Sound is located in Lee County, Florida, lying between Pine Island and the barrier islands of Sanibel, Captiva, North Captiva and Cayo Costa, which separate the Sound from the Gulf of Mexico. The Sound connects to Gasparilla Sound and Charlotte Harbor to the north, and to San Carlos Bay and the Caloosahatchee River to the south.

Cayo Costa Island is one of a chain of barrier islands that shelter Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound. The island is 12 miles West of Cape Coral and accessable only by boat.

With nine miles of beautiful undeveloped beach and acres of pine forests, oak-palm hammocks and mangrove swamps, this barrier island park is a Gulf Coast paradise.  The surrounding waters are constantly visited by Manatees and pods of Dolphins. Cayo Costa is a  2,426 acre State Park with only 33 homes on the whole island.

Fishing for Tarpon, Redfish and Snook is right out your front and back door. The area is known for prime Fly Fishing with thousands of Tarpon migrating through every year. Cayo Costa is perhaps known as the finest Shelling location on Florida's west coast. If you need a fishing guide, Capt Arthur Schmidt Charters is one of the very best.
